New MemoryStick Form-factor

Tagged:

Dubbed the “Micro(M2),” the new format is about 1/4 the the size of the Memory Stick Pro Duo (boy does the marketing department need to work on its naming schemes!).

The new format Sony developed with SanDisk will have a theoretical maximum of 32GB, though no word on whether we’ll ever see one with such capacity (but it would be pretty cool, wouldn’t it—imagine a non-crippled ROKR with 32GBs!).

Licensing for use of the new memory format began yesterday.

Here are some of the technical specifications:

  • Dimensions: 15 × 12.5 × 1.2 mm
  • Volume: 225 mm3
  • Connector Pin: 11-pin
  • Maximum Capacity: 32GB (Theoretical)
  • Max. Data Transfer Rate: 160 Mbps (Theoretical)
  • Operating Voltage: 1.7 - 1.95 V and 2.7 - 3.6 V
  • Interface: Serial I/F and 4-bit parallel I/F
  • Operating Temperature: -25∼+85°C
  • Copyright Protection Technology: MagicGate
