Embedded in the settings of the latest iTunes update are hints and some new functionality for mobile phone syncing in iTunes

UPDATE: I finally got ahold of iTunes 7.0 and found that the text of the files look to be about the same. Looking at it more closely, there looks to be a lot more functionality in store for for “iTunes-enabled mobile phone[s],” including syncing of music, podcasts, movies, tv, photos, data, contacts, and calendar. Who knows when such phones will arrive, and if they will only be manufactured by Apple, or if like Motorola, Apple will license the technology. I’ve pasted the full portion of the mobile phone section at the bottom of this post, so you don’t have to dig it up.

Erica once again has found some interesting messages hidden in the bugfixed update for iTunes 7.

Looks like additional syncing of content may be coming to a mobile phone near you. Hopefully soon.

This piece of information, lends more credibility to the rumor earlier in the week about Apple signing an exclusive 6-month deal in the US with Cingular to distribute “the iPhone.” Currently, Motorola is the sole mobile phone manufacturer that has iTunes content syncing, however, only audio. This new string in iTunes clearly indicates that video content playback will be a feature of a mobile phone that will sync with iTunes. Whether that is “the iPhone” remains to be seen—but it would seem that the stars are starting to align.
