Mac OS X 10.4.9 update adds more iSync support [UPDATE]

still working on details but here's what I know so far...

We have an update with newly supported phones...

You can find the update details listed here but here are some of the details specific to iSync:

  • Event notes are now synced between iCal and Nokia N70 phones.
  • Adds iSync support for more devices.

Sadly, that’s all I know so far, but I’m looking for more details as to what devices are newly supported (Apple’s iSync Device Support page still is listing iSync 2.3 as the latest version). I’ll post more info as soon as I learn more, and will update the Sync-Apps page accordingly.

UPDATE:

Thanks to Julian, we’ve got some additional info on the newly supported phones in iSync 2.4 (including a couple from Samsung, a mobile phone manufacture never supported in iSync—which hopefully spells new things to come):

Sony Ericsson K800

Sony Ericsson K790

Sony Ericsson K610

Sony Ericsson Z525

Samsung D600

Samsung D900

Motorola K1

Nokia 6102

Nokia 6103

Nokia 6131

Nokia E61

Nokia E62

Nokia N71

Nokia N72

Nokia N73

Nokia N80

Nokia N91

Nokia N93

Also good news is the Motorola K1, which I believe runs Moto’s new OS, which hasn’t been supported before. Hopefully this means it will be easier for hackers to whip-up plugins for similarly-OS’d phones.

Thanks again, Julian, for the details!

Sony Ericsson K790a
Posted by Anonymous User at 2007-03-14 22:22

The list of supported devices refers to the Sony Ericsson K790i, which is the version for Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa. I was pleased to find out that my K790a, which is the version for the Americas, syncs using iSync 2.4

K790

The K790a, K790i and K790c are all the same phone.

The letter suffix just denotes what region of the world it is sold in.

With all Sony Ericsson phones, the letter at the end is irrelevant as far as iSync support goes. All regional variations work the same.

9300i works with USB as well

even though not listed as USB compatible in the Apple device list.

Nokia E61
Posted by Vinko at 2007-03-19 10:24

After the update I the old Mactomster iSync plug-in no longer works with the new iSync. So, I had to remove the plug-in, but since Apple list the Nokia E61 as one of the compatible phones, I did not think this was a problem.

Although, since the upgrade I can no longer synchronize my E61 with my Mac. Each time I try, it reports there is an unexpected error while synchronizing. The suggested solution is to restart the E61. Unfortunately, after multiple restart of the phone, iSync Reset of the device, and removing/adding the E61 in iSync, still result in fail synchronization reported by iSync.

===============
15:02:48 Error [Vinko’s E61] An unexpected error occured.

15:02:48 Error Device “Vinko’s E61” synchronization failed

Does anyone have similar problems or a solution?

Vinko

Mactomster iSync plug-in on OS X 10.4.9
Posted by Anonymous User at 2007-03-20 05:47

I had the same problem. Update to 10.4.9, got an error message in iSync due to Mactomster, removed Mactomster, and could not sync my Nokia N73.

The solution was simply to remove the phone from iSync (I also removed it as a bluetooth device in the bluetooth control panel altogether), and add it from scratch without Mactomster. Worked perfectly.

Unfortunately I can’t give you a step-by-step description, as my OS is in Norwegian and I don’t know what the menus are called in English… :)

some steps to try
Posted by admin at 2007-03-20 11:42

try this:

  1. Launch iSync. If you have the N73 listed in the main window, click on it and in the Devices menu, select “Remove Device.” Also in the Devices menu, select “Reset all devices”
  2. Restart your Mac and your phone.
  3. Assuming you’ve already paired the phone with your Mac, launch iSync. In the Devices menu, select “Add Device.”

This should clear things out, but if it doesn’t, leave a comment and we’ll try and trouble shoot.

Just not working

I had the Mactomster plugin, I think I’ve removed it all, but I’m still getting the same error with my N73 - “Unexpected error”. I’ve followed the steps, removing the device, resetting, restarting, adding, but I get the same problem. What do you think is wrong with my setup?

Is removing the Mactomster plugin as simple as removing the PhonePlugins folder and the .pluginfile?

are you getting this error on the N73 or on your mac? i’m not sure, but maybe there’s a setting on the n73 to reset things? also, you could try backing up and then deleting your syncservices folder in your user library/application support folder on your mac after first going thru the resetting process listed above.

i’m not sure what’s going on here with your n73—maybe others could chime in?

E61 sync with Mac

Me too, drives me mad that there is no sync between the mac and the E61 due to an unexpected error…
Any solution for this?
Many thanks, Alex

nokia 6131

I just purchased a Nokia 6131. It’s a great phone. However, whenever i use iSync or BT exchange, my mac becomes very sluggish. I never had this happen before with any other cell phone I had. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this a known issue?

When you turn the phone on, if you've ever used any version Windows before, this interface will look familiar and if not, it's pretty easy to figure out. The MPx220 I had started up in Spanish, but the interface was easy enough to navigate thru the options to change the language and regional settings. I wouldn't necessarily say it was intuitive, but it is straight-forward.When first starting the phone, you'll note that this phone means business. The selector is focused on the icons lined up along the top of the screen. From right to left are icons of the of the most recently used applications. Just below that, you'll see the name of your network carrier along with the current time and date. Below that you'll see the status of any messages--voice messages, SMS, MMS, Email, etc. Below that is a listing of any upcoming appointments or tasks. At a mere glance, you know what's going on and what's coming up--nice.
