Reader iSync Plugin for Motorola ic402, Need help for ic502

Tagged:

A while back, I posted a call for help on the Motorola ic502. James sent me an email, letting me know that he's taken it upon himself to hack together an iSync plugin for the unsupported Motorola ic402 iDEN/CDMA, and may be able to get things to work for the ic502, with your help...

From James’ email…

This effort actually started as trying to make my wife’s Razr v3m work with iSync and evolved into messing with my company iDEN phone. I got started by looking at the plugins that were embedded in the iSync app bundle and also used the DIY instructions on the Tao of mac site. I also got some help from a RAZR V3m plugin I downloaded. Based on what I have been reading from some of the users, the ic402/ic502 is similar to some v32x phones out there so I thought I would take a crack at making this ic402 phone I have visible to iSync. I ripped the phone graphic from the Sprint/Nextel site and edited with Photoshop. I grabbed the gmm and gmi strings per the instructions on the Tao of Mac site. I used the iSync app bundle’s phone “drivers” as the model for this phone Metaclasses as well as a v325 plugin I found.

I have tested it and the phone book capability is working although I am unable to make the calendar work and iSync is either unaware or unable to handle iDEN numbers (they show up as work numbers). I am hoping someone else with one of these hybrid phones can also do some testing. To make the ic502 visible to iSync should be trivial….we just need the USB device id and the gmm+gmi strings. BTW, USB charging doesn’t work either…even with the MotoCharger app that is floating around. I think it is looking for specific USB device id’s.

I am available for assistance if anyone else with one of these hybrid phones is interested.

The phone plugin he provided is here

For those of you looking for help modifying this plugin with your ic502, we’re going to need some information. Please follow these steps and leave a comment below with the pertinent info. Plug in your ic502 via USB to your Mac and on your mac, under the Apple menu, select “About this Mac,” and click on the “More Info…” button. This will open the System Profiler application. In this program, in the first “Contents” column, under hardware, select USB. In the right column, find the USB bus that indicates some sort of Motorola Phone. We’ll need to know what the “Product ID” and “Vendor ID” lists for your phone. Please leave a comment below with those details. Also, please make sure you’re running the latest-and-greatest version of Mac OS X (10.4.9 is the most recent).

After we receive more feedback, I’ll make another post for the ic502 plugin testing and we can go from there.

UPDATE: You can now find info for the Motorola ic502 isync plugin here
